    * Starting with the 2006 TaxWorks program, to install on the server you will need to be sitting at the server because of the new database that the program will be using.

    * In 2007, the server installation does not install a working program so you will be unable to access it. You must select the Server and Workstation Install to be able to use the program on a server computer.

  1. Designate one of the server drives to be the Working/Network Drive. If you do not know how to do this, you will need to refer to your system administrator, computer manufacturer, or Microsoft Technical Support.
  2. Close all running programs and insert the TaxWorks CD into your CD-ROM drive, printed side up.
  3. Wait a few seconds for the Auto Run TaxWorks menu to appear. If you receive the following message asking if you want to allow the CD to run active content on your computer, click Yes (figure 1).

  4. (figure 1)

  5. Once the Installation page is open, click the "Begin Server Installation" link (figure 2).
    • Note: If for some reason the Auto Run menu does not appear, click on the Start button on the taskbar and select Run. Type in D:\SETUP and click the OK button. If your CD-ROM drive uses a letter other than D, substitute that letter for D.

    (figure 2)

  6. A File Download - Security Warning will then appear, click Run (figure 3).

  7. (figure 3)

  8. You may receive another Internet Explorer - Security Warning, click Run (figure 4).

  9. (figure 4)

  10. The Install Shield Wizard will appear, click Next (figure 5).

  11. (figure 5)

  12. You will then see the License Agreement. Read through the agreement and select Yes if you agree to the terms and conditions (figure 6).

  13. (figure 6)

  14. Now select the type of installation you desire. The Recommended installation will install the program to the default install path which is C:\TaxPrep\TY08\. Although installed on the default path, you will be able to select the server path location of the program which is where the data will be stored (figure 7).
    • Note: We encourage the Recommended install. If you select the Advanced installation please contact Technical Support for assistance at 1-800-843-1139.

    (figure 7)

  15. You may now select the Server Path location. This will be the working path for the program where the data will be stored. Simply click the Change button to change the location. Once you have the correct Server Path, click Next (figure 8).

  16. (figure 8)

  17. The next window will ask if you'd like to install a new SQL Server instance or install to an existing SQL Server instance. Select which you'd like to do and click Next (figure 9). We recommend installing a New SQL Server Express (2005) Instance.

  18. (figure 9)

  19. The next window will allow you to confirm the information you slected earlier in the setup. If something doesn't look correct you can go back and change it by clicking the Back button. Once everything looks correct, click Next (figure 10).

  20. (figure 10)

  21. The installation process will now begin (figure 11).

  22. (figure 11)

  23. Once the files are done installing, you will see them extracting (figure 12).

  24. (figure 12)

    • If TaxWorks detects that MDAC needs to be updated, a screen will appear indicating that MDAC must be installed. This is a Windows component and is required to run TaxWorks. Click OK and proceed through the installation wizard. Once completed, click Finish to continue with the TaxWorks installation.
    • You may receive a message noting that your screen display does not meet recommendations. The minimum display requirements are 800 X 600 pixels. We recommend setting your pixels to 1024 X 768. Click OK to bypass this message. You can make adjustments later by clicking the Windows Start menu, selecting Control Panel, Display, and selecting the Settings tab.
    • You may receive a message noting that the program requires Adobe Acrobat Reader version 8.0. We recommend that you install version 8.0 by clicking Yes.

  25. If you selected to install a new instance of the SQL Server it will now begin to install. When completed press Next (figure 13).

  26. (figure 13)

  27. The Install Systems screen will then appear. Tag the systems and states you want to install. You must install System Operations, Federal Universal (Shared Forms) and at least one federal system. After tagging the systems, click Install From Internet to get the latest version of the systems or Install from CD to get the CD version of the systems (figure 15). Once you have finished installing all the systems you want installed, click Close.

  28. (figure 15)

  29. The program is now installed. Click the Finish button (figure 16).

  30. (figure 16)

  31. You can now run the workstation installation on your individual workstations.
