  1. Click on Start, All Programs, TaxWorks 2008, and select Support Tool (figure 1).

  3. Click on the Database menu (figure 2).

Refer to figure 2 above for items a through f.

  1. Test MSDE / SQL Connections – This tool can be used to test connections to an SQL database(figure 3).
    1. Enter the Server Name, Login and password for the SQL database and click Test (figure 3). Click here for a list of Taxworks SQL logins and passwords.

    3. You should receive a Test Connection Successful message, click OK (figure 4).

  2. Verify MDAC – Use this tool to verify that the Microsoft Database Access Components are installed (figure 5).

  4. Test MDAC – This tool will test the connection to the Microsoft Database Access Components (figure 6).

  6. Repair Access Database – This tool can be used to repair a Microsoft Access database file ( *.mdb) (figure 7). Some files in Taxworks that use this format are:
    • Clients.mdb - Client Selection database file, usually found where a data path is set to.
        (e.g. C:\program files\taxprep\TY07\DATA)
    • TPM07.mdb - Client Management database file, found in the Settings Path.
        (e.g. C:\program files\taxprep\TY07\Settings\TPM)
    • appt.mdb - Scheduler database file, usually found in the Settings path.
        (e.g. C:\program files\taxprep\TY07\Settings)
      1. Browse to the location of the Access database file. Click Repair Database (figure 7).

      3. A message will appear verifying the database was repaired (figure 8).

  7. Repair Management Database – This tool will repair possible corruption in the TPM database (figure 9).

  9. Setup Database (Access, MSDE, or SQL server) – Use this option to change/setup the database type for the TPM (management) database.
