SO10327 - Resetting the Master Password at Login

If the password is entered incorrectly three times, the Login Denied screen will appear (figure 1).

If the password is not being accepted, complete the following steps to reset the Master Password.

  1. Select Master Password on the TaxWorks Login screen and click the I Forgot button (figure 2).

  2. The question you selected when you set up security will appear. Answer the question and enter a new Master Password, re-enter the password in the box below to verify it was entered correctly and click OK (figure 3).

  4. If you were able to reset it successfully, go to step 5. If you cannot recall the answer to the question, click the I Forgot button to access the secondary reset menu (figure 4).

  6. At this point, a Keycode will need to be obtained from TaxWorks Support at 1-800-843-1139. Enter the code the Support Technician provides to you in the field labeled Provide the "Change Password Keycode". Then enter a new Master Password, repeating the same password in the box below to verify it was entered correctly and click OK (figure 5).

  8. Once the password is reset you will be taken back to the Login to TaxWorks 2008 screen (figure 6).

  10. You will need to enter in the Master Password and click Login (figure 7).

  12. This will take you to the Security Setup screen. If you wish, you can disable security on the Password tab, or click on the Login tab and enter in your desired User ID and Passwords and click OK (figure 8).

  14. You will be taken back to the Login Screen where you can enter in the appropriate User ID and click Login to open TaxWorks (figure 9).
