Soft fonts are fonts that are temporarily loaded into a printer's memory. TaxWorks requires these fonts to be loaded when printing tax forms using PCL printing mode.
If the TaxWorks soft fonts are not automatically loaded into the printer memory when a print job is started, you can manually load the soft fonts.
Note: If the printer being used does not support PCL printing, PDF printing will need to be used to print tax forms. This can be changed in Settings, Printer & Delivery Settings, then mark the option to Print forms in PDF format.
- Click on the Installations menu from the main TaxWorks screen and select Load Soft Fonts (figure 1).

- The soft fonts will briefly appear in the printer queue (figure 2).

Troubleshooting FAQ
* It is possible that a printer does not support PCL printing, and will have problems if trying to print with this mode, such as documents not printing from TaxWorks at all, but other software programs can print documents.
- Look in Settings, Printer & Delivery Settings, and verify that the box to Print forms in PDF format is not checked (figure 3).

- Click the Start menu and select Printers and Faxes (figure 4).

- Double click the printer driver used for printing (figure 5).

- Check to see if the TaxWorks soft fonts are loaded/shown here (figure 6).

- It's possible that the soft fonts are stuck in printer memory and causing problems with printing.
Select the Printer menu and Cancel All Documents.
Note: If the soft fonts will not cancel, try turning the printer off and then on again or, if needed, rebooting
the computer.
- Re-open TaxWorks and test print a document again.
- If problem persists, repeat steps 2-6, then open TaxWorks, Settings, Printer & Delivery Settings, and check to
Print forms in PDF format, using low resolution. PDF printing will need to be used for printing in TaxWorks (figure 7).
