The Overview screen is the screen that first appears when the EF Center is accessed either through the program or through the web.

  1. To access the EF Center, go to www.taxworks.com, or click on the EF Ctr button in TaxWorks (figure 1).

  3. Enter your User Name and Password, and click Log In (figure 2).
    • Note: If you do not want to enter this information each time, check the "Keep me logged in" box.

  4. After you have successfully logged in, the EF Center will open to the Overview screen. The Overview screen is divided into five main sections: System, Helpful Tools, New, Pending, and Helpful Links (figure 3).

  6. The New section consists of five items: Acks, Checks, Alerts, Bank Summary, and Confirmation Letters (figure 4).
    • Acks – These are the Acknowledgments that have come back from the IRS or the state, giving the status of a return.
    • Checks – From here you can print new checks or reprint checks that may have had problems.
    • Alerts – Here you will receive Alerts regarding important information from the IRS and from TaxWorks.
    • Bank Summary – This will give you a summary of the different dates that you have printed checks and the status of those checks.
    • Confirmation Letters – Clicking on this link will take you to a screen listing all clients that have confirmation letters ready to send.

  7. The Pending column consists of six items: In Send Clients, At Filing Center, At IRS, At State(s), Rejects, and Bank (figure 5).
    • In Send Clients – This refers to the returns that have been created as e-files and are ready to be sent to the IRS and the state.
    • At Filing Center – This refers to those returns that have been sent to TaxWorks and are waiting to be drained to the IRS and the state.
    • At IRS – This refers to those returns that have been sent to the IRS and are waiting to be acknowledged.
    • At State(s) – This refers to those returns that have been sent to the state and are waiting to be acknowledged.
    • Rejects – Refers to those returns that have been rejected by the IRS or the state. Click on the link to view the reasons for the rejects.
    • Bank – This refers to those returns that have a pending Bank Product.

  8. The Helpful Tools column contains four categories: History, Preferences, Multiple Office Management, and Bank (figure 6).
    • History – This links you to a page that allows you to view the total acknowledgements and rejects.
    • Preferences – This links you to a page that lets you change company account information. These changes will be submitted to the TaxWorks accounting department and changes will then be made to your account.
    • Multiple Office Management – This allows clients with multiple offices to manage and monitor their accounts by sorting each office.
    • Bank – This allows you to compare the different banks and bank products that are available as well as enroll in a bank.

  9. The Helpful Links column contains four categories: IRS and State. These links contain various websites and important information for e-filing (figure 7).
    • IRS – This links you to the IRS website, and other pages with important information such as the e-file drain times, release dates, etc.
    • State – This links you to the State e-file information and also shows you any specific State Mandates.

  10. The System drop down box allows you to select which EF system you want to view (i.e. 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120, 1120S,990 and MI-SBT) (figure 8).
