EF10171 - EF and Bank Settings
Description:
Overview of the EF and Bank Settings screen.

The EF and Bank Settings screen has three tabs:

  1. To get to the EF and Bank Settings, click on the Settings Menu and select EF and Bank Settings (figure 1).

  2. (figure 1)

  3. EF Switches – This tab contains the E-filing Access Code as well as the Default EFIN fields. The switches that are related to E-filing are also located on this tab (figure 2).

  4. (figure 2)

Refer to figure 2 above for items a through g.

    1. This will require you to verify the information in key E-file entry fields. It will prompt you for a double entry for these key fields, bringing up a screen similar to the one below (figure 3).

    2. (figure 3)

    3. This will allow you to view the EF Refund Timing on the toolbar (figure 4). It will only show when the return is marked for E-file.

    4. (figure 4)

    5. This will allow you to view the preparer fees in the Send Clients section of the EF center.
    6. This will make Electronic Filing the default for filing all Federal 1040 returns.
    7. This will make Electronic Filing the default for filing all State 1040 returns.
    8. This will suppress the create E-file confirmation window from coming up when an E-file is created (figure 5) for Direct and State Only E-files.

    9. (figure 5)

    10. This will suppress the Filing Options from showing up when the return is reviewed (figure 6).

    11. (figure 6)

  5. EFIN Batches – This tab contains the batch number setup for the Declaration Control Number (DCN). You can change the batches on this screen (figure 7).

  6. (figure 7)

Refer to figure 7 above for items a through d.

    1. This column is where the EFIN (Electronic Filing Identification Number) is being used when sending E-files is entered. There is space to enter in multiple EFINs if more than one EFIN is being used in an office.
    2. This column is where the starting batch number is entered. The starting batch number is the batch the computer will start at when creating E-files. This number may need to be changed if you are receiving a Duplicate DCN message when creating e-files.
    3. This column is where the ending batch number is entered. The ending batch number is the batch the computer will end at when creating E-files. If you have multiple computers that create E-Files with the same EFIN that are set up as Standalones you must enter different batch ranges on each machine unless they will try to use DCNs that were already used for that EFIN. For example, if there are 3 standalone machines using the same EFIN the batch ranges should be something like this:
    4. Computer 1: Starting Batch - 1 Ending Batch - 330
      Computer 2: Starting Batch - 331 Ending Batch - 360
      Computer 3: Starting Batch - 661 Ending Batch - 999

    5. This shows an example of how a DCN is created: the first 6 numbers of the DCN will be the EFIN that is being used, the next three numbers will be the batch number that the computer is at, the next two numbers will be the sequence number of the batch the computer is at, the last number is the year.
      • NOTE: Each EFIN is allowed up to 999 batches. There are 99 returns allowed for every 1 batch number (indicated by the sequence number) before starting a new batch.

  7. Bank – Select the appropriate bank from this tab. If you are using Santa Barbara Bank & Trust you may also enter in a documentation fee on this screen. To enroll with a bank you must complete the Bank Enrollment process in the TaxWorks E-File Center (figure 8).
