How to send a sample return to the E-File Center and view the Acknowledgement.

Send Clients
- To send a sample return to the E-File Center, you must be in the Samples folder. On the Client Selection screen select Samples from the Folder drop down box (figure 1).

- Open a sample return and fill out the return. Once it's filled out select the GI - General Info input screen from the Forms Pane (figure 2).

- Fill out the Electronic Filing and Direct Deposit Information section (figure 3).

Refer to figure 3 above for items a through c.
- Make sure that the File federal return electronically box is checked.
- Mark which states you would like to file electronically by clicking on the File State Return(s) Electonically box.
- Check the box under the EF column next to the state you would like to e-file (figure 4).

- Under the State EF File Type column, select the manner in which the return will be sent to the IRS. If you select Piggyback, the state return will be sent along with the federal return. If you select State Only, the state return is sent along with the federal to the IRS and is then sent to the State. If the State requires a Direct e-file, you cannot choose any other method and the e-file will be sent directly to the State (figure 5).

- Fill out the Practitioner PIN Program box.
- Review the return and resolve any red EF Audits in the Audit Statement screen (figure 6).

- Click the Create E-File(s) button (figure 7).

- Tag Federal and any states for which you want to create the e-file and click OK (figure 8).

- You will then receive a message warning you that this return is in the samples folder and it will not be transmitted to the IRS if it is sent. If you wish to send it, click Yes (figure 9).

- The E-File will then be created and a notification will come up telling you so (figure 10).

- Click the EF Cntr button from within TaxWorks (figure 11).

- You will see the following screen. Enter your User Name and Password and click Log In (figure 12).

- Once you have signed in, you will see the Overview screen. Click the Samples tab to get to the Samples portion of the E-File Center and click the In Send Clients link under the Pending section or the Send Clients along the top to view the returns that are currently waiting to be submitted (figure 13).

- Tag the client(s) you would like to submit and click Send (figure 14).

- The Transmissions Totals will appear. Verify the totals are correct and click OK (figure 15).

- A Transmission Report will then appear. You can Print, Save as PDF, or Email the Report. The Transmission Date and Number on the report will help you retrieve your Acknowledgement Report (figure 16).

- Click the Close button to exit the Transmission Report (figure 17).

- Click the Overview button to return to the Overview screen (figure 18).

- A new Confirmation Letter will be available if the sample return shows as accepted. To view it, click the Confirmation Letters link (figure 19).
Note: This process takes longer for a live return.

- Find the name of the return that you sent. Tag the correct name and click View (figure 20).

- You also have the option to Email and Archive the Confirmation Letter (figure 21).

- View the Confirmation Letter to make sure all of the information is showing correctly. You have the option to Print, Save as PDF, or Email the Report (figure 22).

- Click Close to exit the Confirmation when you are finished with it (figure 23).

- Click on the Overview button to go back to the Overview screen. Then click the Acks link (figure 24).
Note: For a live return you should receive an Acknowledgement back from the IRS within 3 - 5 days of being drained.

- Tag the correct Transmission Date and Transmission Number and click View (figure 25).

- You also have the option to Archive the Acknowledgement Report (figure 26).

- Verify that all information on the report is correct. You have the option to Print, Save as PDF, and Email the Report (figure 27).
